The Kaustisen Näppärit ry. has hosted two large-scale events built around Scandinavian folk music, called Folkskandia. Folkskandia has given the young people with musical interests in Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark new enthusiasm towards their hobby. The various courses and concerts we have taken part in have proven to be efficient ways of learning about our neighbouring countries’ music, life and history. The experiences we’ve had so far encourage us to continue and develop the Folkskandia co-operation even further. scandinavian Folk Fiddling has been compiled from a programme played in Folkskandia in the 2000s. Each participant country is represented with five tunes and allthough traditional Scandinavian folk music is emphasised in this compilation it also includes newer compositions. Fresh arrangements made in the ‘Näppäri style’ pleasant musical moments for all ages. (KIJ 66, 2009)
